Talk 1: Using OpenTelemetry for Metrics in Datadog

Speaker: Dinesh Gurumurthy (Sr Software Engineer OpenTelemetry) and Pablo Baeyens (Software Engineer OpenTelemetry) at Datadog

OpenTelemetry is a CNCF project that allows you to instrument your applications and infrastructure in a vendor-neutral way to produce metrics, traces and logs. In this talk we will explore how to use OpenTelemetry for:

How to use the most common instruments including Exponential Histograms to measure relevant application metrics

Exporting and processing your data via the OpenTelemetry Collector

Adding context with OpenTelemetry semantic conventions

Troubleshooting your deployment if something goes wrong

We will finish by discussing the future roadmap of OpenTelemetry for metrics, the Collector and semantic conventions.
