6 20 - 6 25 - Intro
6:30 - 7:00 - How Box Runs Containers in Production with Kubernetes - Sam Ghods
Everyone is talking about using containers to deploy microservices, but exactly how all the pieces fit together is still a bit of a mystery. In this talk, we'll go over how Box went from bare-metal infrastructure that took six months to deploy a new service to using Kubernetes and Docker to deploy services in under an hour.
Learn the practical details of how Box uses Kubernetes to deploy containers in production, including packaging, deployment, service discovery, secret management and more, and how you can use our techniques to get containers up and running in your own organization.
7:05 - 7:25 - Kubernetes @ GoDaddy - Sushant
7:30 - 7:50 - Single tenant software to multi-tenant SaaS using Kubernetes - Igor Seletskiy
Moving from a single tenant app to SaaS is a challenge. It requires dealing with scalability, reliability, tenant isolation. It often means a complete rewrite, and substantial investment in performance optimization and high availability. The problem of scale is easy to illustrate, if a single tenant consumes 10GB of data in a DB, 10,000 multi-tenant setups would require 100TB database, and the problem from trivial becomes advanced.
Using Kubernetes to build multi-tenant SaaS-based on a single-tenant software provides following benefits:
* Reliability & HA
* Provisioning & updates
* Tenant isolation
We would also touch the topic of future potential performance optimizations as well as why this approach wasn’t common before the advent of containers.
8:15 - 9:00 - Social / Wrap-up
Sam Ghods is a cofounder and Services Architect at Box, where he is responsible for service infrastructure. Prior to his current role, Sam led software architecture at Box for eight years as Vice President of Technology. Previously, he was an engineer and cofounder at two startups.
Igor Seletskiy is an accomplished technology guru focusing on Linux, Docker, kernel and kubernetes development, with a track record of more than 15 years of delivering innovative products to market.
Seletskiy is the founder and CEO of CloudLinux. CloudLinux OS is a Linux distribution featuring lightweight containers for tenant isolation and built specifically for service providers. CloudLinux also makes rebootless kernel patching software and Kubernetes-based hosting platform. Prior to founding CloudLinux in 2009, Seletskiy founded PSOFT, the pioneer of the multi-server hosting automation product H-Sphere, one of the first web file managers WebShell and site builders - SiteStudio. In 2005, he brought to market FreeVPS, an open source container-based virtualization product. After PSOFT’s acquisition by Comodo, he worked on server security products including HackerGuardian and Trustix OS.
