Hello Berlin Kubernauts!
The "short" month of February has passed us by and March is here. Please join us for an evening of K8s content and the opportunity to network with others excited about all things cloud native.
First on the program is Dmitry. In the brave new world of cloud native computing, developers and operators have to manage legions of microservices and containers. A service mesh is a handy tool to control, secure, and help debug all these microservices. Istio is a new service mesh created and open sourced by Google, IBM and Lyft. Istio is well suited to Kubernetes, and is currently the most popular and powerful service mesh in container environments. It provides services such as load balancing, authorization, circuit-breakers, A/B Tests and canary testing. After a short introduction of service meshes and the main features of Istio, Dmitry will demonstrate some of the more interesting ways to use it.
The second presentation will feature Patrick discussing some of the challenges facing enterprises adopting K8s. He will highlight the problems of cost visibility, cost control and chargeback for deployments. Knowing the problem is only half the battle, so he will dive into how enterprises can gain a consistent financial view of their K8s deployments across disparate infrastructure, how they can co-relate K8s usage to underlying infrastructure costs and how they can gain control over these costs. Finally, Patrick will cover the topic of cost visibility and allocation; how enterprises can deploy Kubernetes-as-a-service for consumption by internal teams and keep track of that consumption.
