Kubernauts!
Following the amazing Kubernetes production meetup in March, we're excited to announce our meetup for April. Come and join us as we celebrate Spring with a discussion on monitoring and performance in Kubernetes.
We will be at the reBuy offices on the 4th floor.
Agenda:
6:00 - 7:00p Social
7:00 - 7:30p - Alex Diaz - How to Monitor Microservices with Kubernetes
First, containers radically changed how you could get visibility into your applications. As developers have started to leverage orchestration systems on top of containers, the game is changing yet again. What was a simple application on a host before is now a sophisticated, dynamically orchestrated, multi-container architecture. It’s amazing for development - but introduces a whole new set of challenges for monitoring.
In this talk we’ll lay out a few key principles for monitoring microservices and the containers they are based on. These principles are based on my experience, but also leverage the wisdom of hundreds of organizations that are currently monitoring microservices with Kubernetes.
7:30 - 8:00p - Frederic Branczyk - End-to-End Monitoring with the Prometheus Operator
Kubernetes is a powerful system to build and operate a modern cloud-native infrastructure. Monitoring with Prometheus ensures that Kubernetes stays healthy. Prometheus is a stateful application so operating it can be a challenging task. The Prometheus Operator makes running highly available Prometheus clusters and even an entire end to end monitoring pipeline easily manageable. Frederic will explain the functionality of the Prometheus Operator as well as describe a desirable end to end monitoring stack including alerts and dashboards.
8:00 - 8:15p - (Lightning Talk) Björn Häuser - Kubernetes at reBuy
8:15 - 9:00p - Social/Wrap up
Summaries
Speakers:
Alex Diaz is the lead EMEA Solutions Architect at Sysdig. Alex has over 10 years of experience working with Enterprise customers helping them to achieve optimization, network, storage, security and cloud goals. Alex’s past experience includes solution design and implementation of enterprise-level clouds, including many geared around Cloud Native Technologies. Alex now seeks to educate on the many benefits of container based platforms including Kubernetes, Mesosphere, Docker, and Sysdig.

Frederic Branczyk is an engineer at CoreOS, where he contributes to Prometheus and Kubernetes to build state-of-the-art modern infrastructure and monitoring tools. Frederic discovered his interest in monitoring tools and distributed systems in his previous jobs, where he used machine learning to detect anomalies indicating intrusion attempts. He also worked on projects involving secrets management for distributed applications to build sane and stable infrastructure.
