We're partnering with the Microsoft Azure team and Tigera to bring this free hackathon-style training session to our community!
This event will be an all day hands-on session, where you will setup a new Kubernetes (K8s) cluster and learn how to deploy and manage microservices-style applications! No prior knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or containers is required.
However, you will need an adequate laptop with wireless access. We will use Microsoft Azure to host the K8s cluster and Nirmata to deploy and manage K8s applications so be ready to sign up for trial accounts for both services (we will walk you through the steps).
Please do not signup if you are only interested in a presentation-style session - we will organize more of those in the future. This session is reserved for developers and/or operations engineers looking to use Kubernetes!
This meetup is also posted on the Azure meetup group (https://www.meetup.com/Microsoft-Azure-Open-Group/). So if you have already signed up there - no need to re-register!
9:00 am – 9:30 am: Breakfast and networking
9:30 am – 11:00 am: Cloud Native Concepts
11:00 am – 11:15 am: Break
11:15 am – 12:15 pm: Securing applications with Calico on AKS
12:15 – 1:00: Lunch
1:00 – 1:45: Azure Kubernetes Services Update and Setup
1:45 – 5:00: Deploy and manage K8s apps
What is needed from you to attend the event:
- Bring your laptop and a charger
- No software will be installed on your computer, since we'll do everything from the browser, including Nirmata's console, and Azure Cloud Shell for CLI.
- You will need an Azure Account, which you can get it for free as explained here:
Note: Even if you currently have an Azure account from your company, unless you are a contributor on the subscription, you might not be able to create resources as public IPs, Load Balancer, etc. So, it is highly recommended that you setup the free account for this event. You can post any question you might have related to the account setup.
