* Serverless at Oracle – Introducing the Fn Project *

Serverless computing continues to rise in popularity and together with microservices and containers now dominates modern development conversations. Through a narrative that takes us from the past into the future, this talk dives deep into the core of why serverless computing exists, how to get started today, and where the trends are taking us into the “yet to come”. Technical and thought provoking, the talk will cover the core concepts of a serverless architecture, as well as a brief introduction to new open source projects being introduced by Chad and team followed by demo.

Chad Arimura, was formerly CEO and Co-Founder of Iron.io, a pioneer of serverless computing, and has written and spoken on the subject since 2010. He is now leading serverless initiatives at Oracle.

* Kubernetes: Cluster Segmentation and Isolation for Enterprise Teams *

Sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, for Enterprises sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder! In this talk we will learn how it's possible to fully automate the isolation of applications running on shared clusters. First, we will review the the multiple levels of segmentation required, from object namespaces to network-level segmentation. The session will then provide best practices usage on several Kubernetes constructs such as namespaces, network policies, storage policies, resource quotas and limits and role based access control.

Damien is a co-founder and VP of Engineering at Nirmata Inc. a company providing a cloud service that fully automates the delivery and management of cloud applications. Previously, Damien spent 8 years at Netscout leading the migration of the engineering team to Agile.

* Unikernels and Event-driven Serverless Platforms *

The talk introduces unikernels and then follows up with an evaluation of suitability of unikernels as shrink-wrap format for functions backing event-driven serverless paradigms.

Madhuri is the Founder of Elotl, a systems startup. She has 17 years experience in database, virtualization, and container technologies, and currently enjoys working in unikernel space. Madhuri received her Masters in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington, and Bachelors in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
