This time we will be discussing about how bootc containers works , which applies the Docker container layering model to bootable host systems, using standard OCI/Docker containers as a transport and delivery format for base operating system updates. bootc was accepted to CNCF on January 21, 2025 at the Sandbox maturity level
Understanding bootc: Containerizing Your OS
bootc brings the Docker container layering model to managing host operating systems, treating the base OS as an OCI/Docker container. This allows for atomic, image-based updates, similar to how you'd update an application container. When you update your system, bootc essentially pulls a new OS "image" and swaps it out, ensuring consistency and rollback capabilities. This approach promises simpler, more reliable system management by leveraging familiar container tooling for OS delivery.
