WebAssembly and Kubernetes! - Ralph Squillace, Prinicipal Product Manager @ Microsoft
Kubernetes is the JavaScript of orchestrators: you may not love it, but you use it and so does everyone else -- it’s darned useful! But the future cloud-native world is not going to be “on” hypsercale clouds -- the future chips are going to “circumference” or “peripheral” clouds. This is the famous “edge”, where the next 6-8 years are likely to see more than $1 trillion spent on CDN, private data centers, tons of gateways, and millions and billions of arduinos and raspberry-pis and risc-v SoCs are going to be doing everything from Home Assistant to industrial automation. Kubernetes doesn’t really function well here--or does it? This talk will describe how Kubernetes CAN be the core orchestrator for our future edge-overlords, why WebAssembly is likely to aid that usage, and will have tons of quick demos to show how it feels.
