Talk 1: Deploying Istio (Level 101)
Presenter: Scott Coulton
Cloud Developer Advocate, Microsoft
CNCF Ambassador
Docker Captain
Talk Abstract
In this talk, we will look at how to deploy Istio on AKS. To do this, we will first have to understand the components of Istio like envoy, spiffe and spire. This will then give us an excellent foundation to start talking more advanced topic like how to set up mTLS without changing your application code, Application routing based on weight or zero trust API calls. Making sure all services are authenticated to each other before traffic reaches your pods. Lastly, we will tie this all together and look at wrapping automation around this technology to make it production-ready.

Talk 2: Flux it with Kubernetes
Presenter: Harry Page, Certus Solutions
34 Year IT veteran
Started container journey over 4 years ago:
• SAAS solution for serving dev environments
• Docker implementation for network customer
• Kubernetes implementation for video delivery on IKS
• Kubernetes implementation on AKS
• DevOps for the above projects
Talk Abstract
Flux is a tool that automatically ensures that the state of your Kubernetes cluster matches the configuration you’ve supplied in Git. It uses an operator in the cluster to trigger deployments inside Kubernetes, which means that you don’t need a separate continuous delivery tool. Developed by Weaveworks, it has recently been added as a CNCF sandbox project. Harry will talk about what Flux does and his experiences with Flux in a customer project.
