What did that container cost and why should I care? (Erik Onnen, Cloudability)
As more and more workloads move to the cloud, approximating the cost of those workloads becomes an increasingly difficult task. Attendees will learn how and why the cost of operating containers in public cloud varies over time and best practices to normalize that variance. Lastly, the talk will conclude with a discussion around why normalization of container costs matter heading into the future. This talk will focus on some detail of AWS billing data but will be generally applicable to all public cloud providers.
Erik Onnen (@eonnen) is the CTO of Cloud at Apptio where he runs the cloud engineering team. Formerly he was the CTO of Cloudability where he ran the Product and Engineering teams for the past four years.

How community projects such as central repositories can be run on Kubernetes (Rimantas Mocevicius, JFrog)

The microservices powering GoCenter (a central Go modules repository) looks for new versions of thousands of the most popular Go modules on a daily basis. Such an operation requires a lot of scale and can be very expensive. In this talk, we will cover the different types of auto-scalers used such as cluster autoscaler, HPA along with the different custom metrics used and more importantly how we managed to cut down the operational costs by more than 50%.

Rimas Mocevicius is a big Open Source supporter. Co-founded Helm and wrote CoreOS Essentials book. He is currently the Senior Solutions Developer at JFrog.
