7pm Kickoff by Cheryl Hung, Developer Advocate at StorageOS

7:15pm What does cloud native mean (to you)? by Michael Hausenblas, Developer Advocate at Red Hat

The concept of a 12 factor app is more than five years old and a lot has happened since. Containers have gone mainstream, for one. The public cloud offerings have matured. We now have serverless (erm, FaaS) compute at our disposal. The CNCF was born and took Kubernetes under its wings and with the addition of CNI now hosts 10 projects. And yet, the term cloud native means many things to many people. In this talk I’ll try to clarify what cloud native means from an operations and developer perspective, how it goes beyond 12 factor apps and what budget holders and managers should (and should not) expect from it.

Michael Hausenblas is a Developer Advocate for OpenShift and Kubernetes at Red Hat where he helps appops to build and operate distributed services. His background is in large-scale data processing and container orchestration and he's experienced in advocacy and standardization at W3C and IETF. Before Red Hat, Michael worked at Mesosphere, MapR and in two research institutions in Ireland and Austria. He contributes to open source software (mainly using Go), blogs and hangs out on Twitter too much.

7:45pm Break

8pm The challenges of becoming cloud-native by Ben Hall, founder of Ocelot Uproar and Katacoda

Ben Hall is the founder of Ocelot Uproar, a company focused on training and building products loved by users. Ben enjoys looking for the next challenge to solve, sometimes over a beer. Ocelot Uproar is the creator behind Katacoda (http://Katacoda.com ), an interactive learning platform for software engineers. Ben tweets at @Ben_Hall while blogging at http://blog.benhall.me.uk
