afterwards: Have more drinks and snacks, and get in touch with the speaker (and other attendees)

=====
Talk 1: *** Platforms Demystified: Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, Eirini, and Knative (Matthias Haeussler, Novatec) ***

Abstract: Containers, applications, functions: When deploying workloads to the cloud, developers have various options. With this talk, we intend to clarify the different possibilities, with closer focus on Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, Project Eirini, and Knative.

We'll compare and contrast the latest experiences of those platforms in order to extract a meaningful comparison of their features from a developer perspective, providing answers to the following questions:

- Which type of workloads are suitable for which platform?
- Which programming model applies for each platform?
- Where are the differences/where are the overlaps?
- How mature are the individual solutions?
- How simple and user-friendly are they?

Additionally, we'll measure and compare key metrics that affect the developer experience (e.g., time to deploy, time to scale, and other such metrics). The overall goal is to better understand what makes each individual useful in the best way and how they can work together.

Bio:
Matthias Haeussler is a Senior Managing Consultant at Novatec Consulting, Cloud Foundry ambassador and the organizer of the Stuttgart Cloud Foundry Meetup. He advises clients on Cloud strategies and supports implementations and migrations. Besides that he teaches Cloud Native Development at multiple universities around Stuttgart. Prior to that he was employed at IBM R&D Germany for more than 15 years. He is frequent speaker at various national and international conferences and meetups. (e.g. Cloud Foundry Summit, KubeCon, IBM InterConnect, WJAX)

Talk 2 & Demo: *** Running Kubernetes on Workstations and Edge / IoT Devices (Mario-Leander Reimer, QAware) ***

Abstract: When it comes to running Kubernetes in resource constraint environments like your local developer workstation or edge and IoT devices a full-blown Kubernetes distribution is definitely not the right choice. Instead a new breed of super lightweight, certified Kubernetes distributions that (often) come as a single-binary are suited a lot better. In this session we will have a closer look at two popular choices: MicroK8s and K3s. We will briefly cover their basic features and then put them to the test live and uncut: locally and on my NUC powered Cloudkoffer.

Bio:
M.-Leander Reimer is a principal software architect, passionate developer and #CloudNativeNerd working for QAware GmbH. He is continuously looking for innovations in software engineering and ways to combine and apply state-of-the-art technology in real-world projects. Currently he is responsible for several projects concerned with the cloud native evolution of legacy applications. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and he is teaching cloud computing and software quality assurance as a part time lecturer at TH Rosenheim.
