Sessions:
Backstage in a Career Portal - Thomas Schuetz (karriere.at)
Developer portals—especially Internal Developer Portals—are gaining traction as companies seek to streamline their engineering workflows. In this talk, we’ll share our experience implementing Backstage at karriere.at and how it supports our journey to the cloud.
We’ll cover the challenges we faced in bootstrapping Backstage, from service templating to gaining insights into running services. Whether you're considering Backstage for your organization or looking for real-world lessons from an active implementation, this session will provide practical takeaways and insights.
Thomas is a Senior Enterprise Architect at karriere.at and a passionate advocate for cloud-native technology, platform engineering, and efficient application delivery. He focuses on enhancing application delivery processes and continuously explores innovative methods to optimize development experience.
As an educator, Thomas shares his expertise through academic teaching on Cloud Native Technologies, empowering the next generation of engineers. With a blend of practical experience and thought leadership, he is dedicated to advancing modern software delivery practices.
Boundless Monitoring: Thanos for Distributed Kubernetes Environments - Maximilian Marschall (evoila)
Monitoring across multiple Kubernetes clusters can quickly become complex and expensive. Thanos solves this problem by extending Prometheus with scalable multi-cluster monitoring—offering high-performance queries and optimized storage efficiency. We leverage S3 as an affordable long-term storage solution to retain metrics sustainably and cost-effectively. In this session, you'll learn how to use Thanos optimally to ensure fast queries and reliable monitoring in distributed environments.
TalosOS: The OS Kubernetes Deserves - Siegfried Stumpfer (cloudflight)
Configuring Kubernetes is hard enough, so why make it even harder by managing an entire operating system beneath it?TalosOS eliminates many of the common pain points of maintaining an OS in a Kubernetes cluster. In this session, we’ll dive into how TalosOS works and why even the most reckless DevOps engineer will struggle to break it. We will follow two (fictional) DevOps Teams (one using Talos, the other not) as they face the ultimate security challenge: a junior engineer with too much access and too little caution.
Join me as I share my experiences, lessons learned, and why TalosOS might be the OS you didn’t know you needed.
Siegfried Stumpfer - is a (Senior) Software Engineer at Cloudflight, working across a broad range of topics, including DevOps, Web Development, Software Architecture, and Mobile Development.Outside of work, he is passionate about self-hosting, homelabs, and cloud networking. He enjoys testing new technologies in his homelab whenever he comes across them.
