We're Cloud Native Wales and we want to talk all things Cloud Native!
But we also like to talk about Agile as well as things that are AI.
## Speaker: Mark Coleman | dotscience
Mark is also the marketing chairperson at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (https://cncf.io).
Inextricably Linked: Reproducibility and Productivity in Data Science and AI (and how Cloud Native can help)
In this talk Mark presents his team's research comparing the evolution of Software Development & DevOps with that of Data Science & AI.
Because it is more complex and has far more moving parts, Data Science & AI is where Software Development was in 1999: people are emailing and Slacking notebooks to each other, due to a lack of appropriate tooling. There are few CI/CD pipelines and model health monitoring is scarce. A lot that could be automated is still manual. And teams are siloed. This causes problems both for productivity: it's hard to collaborate, and reproducibility: which impacts on governance and compliance.
Mark argues that in order to solve this problem we'll need some cloud native thinking and suggests some ways we can get started including how dotscience fits into the picture.
## Speaker: Nat Morris | Netflix
Nat (https://twitter.com/natmorris) has been at Netflix (https://netflix.com) for other 3 years and has written many of their network configuration and automation toolsets from the ground up. He works from home on a farm in rural Pembrokeshire. Before joining Netflix he managed the DevOps customer engineering team for Cumulus Networks a Silicon Valley-based networking startup. Prior to that, he consulted for a variety of UK FTSE100 organizations and government organizations. He began his career in 1998 migrating customers from Netware to NT4.
He is passionate about Python, distributed systems, network automation, rural networks, and border terriers. He runs an extensive home network that spans over 50 miles, providing gigabit internet to his neighbours and other locals. Over the past couple of years, he has spent many weekends stood in fields, laying miles of fibre ducting in the ground.
He was previously a director of UKNOF, a trade forum for UK internet service providers. He also volunteers at a local CodeClub group teaching primary school students.
Nat will explain in detail how Netflix delivers streaming contents to millions of users daily, resulting in 15% of all internet traffic. Also describing their own in-house CDN "Open Connect" and how their AWS presence is one of the largest in the world. Netflix is famous for its culture of "Freedom and Responsibility".
