About this event

What is CNCF? Cos'é CNCF?

CNCF is a branch of The Linux Foundation focused on Cloud Computing and modern scalable architectures. it's supporting tools like Kubernetes, Prometheus, containerd and so on. If you are using one of them or you are looking to know more about them, this is your meetup. Join us! hashtag #CNCFItaly on twitter.

Supprota progetti come Kubernetes, Opentracing, Rkt, CNI.

About the event (Riguardo l'evento)

This event will be hosted by Coworking Login in Milan. This time we will speak about gRPC a high-performance, open-source universal RPC framework and opentracing applied at a real use case in EnterCloudSuite.

Opentracing is a specification designed to standardize how do we trace distributed application. Tracing is becoming more and more popular and important to have a better understanding of our ecosystem of applications and third-party services.

The second talk will be about Prometheus. A very popular monitoring system and time series database born in SoundCloud. We will hear from Spreaker uses it and which benefits they are getting, mistakes and experiences.

Complete Agenda

7.00 - 7.45 Migrating to Prometheus: what I learned running it in production

An easy-to-follow talk about Prometheus from the user perspective, including lessons learned running it in production at Spreaker. The talk will quickly go through Prometheus architecture, metrics scraping and query language, and will then move to show real use-cases about monitoring nodes, applications and business metrics. It will also include some tips from what we learned running it in production, from how to avoid (or at least reduce) false positives to how to optimize the memory usage.

7.45 - 8.30 gRPC and OpenTracing. How do we build microservices at Enter.

Microservices have revolutionized how we build, deliver and support our applications, putting the scalability at the top. New technologies emerged to manage a new kind of complexity related to communication and visibility. In this talk, I will show you, through real examples, how gRPC and OpenTracing fit exactly into the microservices world to address those issues.
