Welcome to our tenth 'East Bay Cloud Native' meetup!
This marks our first year anniversary!!!
6:00: Grab a seat. Have some food and drinks and network.
6:30: Talk 1 - Working with Kubernetes (Owen Strain)
7:30: Talk 2 - The Modern Observability Toolkit (Mickey Boxell)
8:30: More networking until 9:00pm.
Talk 1 Description: Kubernetes is one of the cornerstones of modern cloud-native infrastructure. It enables you to deploy, manage, and operate your software with more ease, power, and convenience than ever before. In this talk, we'll go beyond the basics and cover advanced workflows, techniques, and tips to make you more productive when developing and operating software on Kubernetes.
Speaker Bio: Owen Strain is a software engineer on the Oracle Functions project. He has been with Oracle for three years and is the technical lead on the team responsible function scaling and virtual machine orchestration. He previously worked as a full-stack developer at Humble Bundle and a kernel engineer at Apple.
Talk 2 Description: Adopting container native and cloud-native development practices presents new operational challenges that need to be addressed. Observability, designing and operating a more visible system, and Site Reliability Engineering, a modern approach to software operations, provide a framework for doing so. We will walk through the process of installing and using a modern set of tools to help developers build, deploy, and operate microservices and achieve operational excellence for running container-based workloads on Kubernetes.
Speaker Bio: Mickey Boxell is a Developer Advocate on the Cloud Native Labs team at Oracle. He is focused on building customer-deployable cloud native/container native solutions to bridge the gap between open source communities and the core Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services. This includes solution tutorials, sample code, technical blog posts all related to the Kubernetes platform.
