After 2 years we're finally returning to our Kafana in 3fs Kranj Office for Spring Kubernetes Slovenia Meetup! :)
BUT we won't leave out all of you who don't have the option to join us live and will therefor be doing the event in hybrid mode with presenters and participants both live and online.
Again we have two presenters.
First one (joining us online) will be Marko Bevc: How to protect applications in Kubernetes clusters?
With the more and more easy use of Cloud Native technologies and the increasing use of Kubernetes clusters as an infrastructure for hosting applications, it is very easy to ignore the security aspect. Somehow we anticipate and also expect that new technologies come with all security protections on. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and in the case of Kubernetes, which contains a very wide range of security mechanisms, most of this is left to users / developers. Therefore we will look at the dangers of using Kubernetes clusters and hosting applications on them in the presentation, and demonstrate live one of the most dangerous possible abuses - the use of privileged containers, and how we can prevent this by using built-in mechanisms. The presentation is intended for occasional Kubernetes users as well as heavy production users.
Marko is Head of Consultancy at The Scale Factory and has been working with AWS and HashiCorp stack on a daily basis for the last 5 years. He has a wealth of experience working with Kubernetes and empowering different customer teams to improve their cloud workloads. Marko is also HashiCorp ambassador, an open source contributor passionate about automation and enthusiastic about new technologies.
Second presenter will join us live in Kranj:
Uroš Lipovšek: Kubernetes operators
Devops is about automation and kubernetes operator pattern is an important feature in this regard. It's used to automate certain steps of human operators through custom resource definition and implementation of reconciliation loop. We will step through the life of custom resource request which is followed by a practical part where I will compare few operator frameworks and show live demo. As with any tool, the kubernetes operator pattern is not something magical that will make all our problems go away and I'll finish my talk with some examples when the operator pattern presents additional challenges along with some potential solutions.
Uroš is MLOps engineer interested in the intersection of infrastructure and machine learning. He started as a data scientist, but soon transitioned to engineering with focus on data and ML. Daily tools include kubernetes, AWS, Prometheus, Loki, CI/CD, ArgoCD, golang and python.
We'll meet in 3fs Kranj Office at 5pm and the first presentation will be at 5:30. Second presentation will start around 6:15. After the second presentation we'll celebrate the fact we haven't seen each other for a while with food, drinks etc. 🙂
Meetup will be held in English.
For those coming to Kranj:
Due to the funky Covid-19 situation we will be limiting the number of people that can join the event live to 30. Please reserve your ticket via https://www.eventbrite.com/.../hybrid-kranjonline.... The tickets are free but we kindly ask you to release it if you'd later realize you won't be able to come so that people on the waiting list can join instead. Also PCT is recommended and other NIJZ restrictions that might be in place at the time.
