1) Running ML workloads on AWS, Dominik Šafarić, Styria.AI
In this session you will learn how Styria.AI radically transformed their business using AWS for supporting custom state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) systems. We dive deep into the operational aspects of powering our systems and processes using AWS services including Amazon EKS powering Amazon EC2 spot fleets, Amazon Batch, Amazon Elastic Inference and serverless services including Amazon Kinesis, Amazon Aurora and many more.
Dominik Šafarić is leading the Styria.AI business development activities and engineering team responsible for the design and development of infrastructure and systems leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for similarity search and object detection and classification. He gained his Master of Science (MSc) in Software Engineering degree at the Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is the author of a few scientific research papers conducted in collaboration with the Technical University Delft, mainly from the area of his personal interest in distributed systems, in particular stream processing and distributed storage systems. To share his experience and knowledge within the community, he regularly goes on stage at various software engineering and DevOps conferences and meet-ups.

This talk is about microservice docker based architecture in Java. Considerations of different Java versions and distros are presented. As with every decision there are pros & cons which will be explained in detail. All decisions are weighed against goals a robust and fast CI & CD should have: reliability, speed & security.
Vice Simunov is the acting director of engineering at a San Francisco based martech firm - Nextuser. He has architected a docker based
microservice architecture in a polyglot environment (java, node.js, python, golang). He founded Dream Factory, a micro-agency specializing in Java and backend technologies.
