About this event

Join us for April's meet-up at the Google Boulder office for talks on "Contour: Advanced Ingress with Envoy" with Joshua Rosso from VMware + "Rethinking Multi-Helm chart deployments with Barrelman" with Brandon Jozsa/Dan Taylor/Jack Bruno from Charter.

AGENDA

[06:30 - 07:00 PM] Dinner + Drinks (brought to you by VMware)

[07:00 - 07:30 PM] Contour: Advanced Ingress with Envoy (with Joshua Rosso)

ABSTRACT: Have you experienced the tattered edges of the Kubernetes Ingress API? Have you found yourself adding annotation upon annotation to wire up additional functionality? Has your team struggled to determine how to delegate the host names, certificates, or paths available to teams in the same Kubernetes cluster?

In this talk, we’ll look at Contour, a Kubernetes ingress controller leveraging Envoy. We’ll discuss how Contour solves these questions with its IngressRoute custom resource definition (CRD).

BIO: I am an engineer at VMware previously working on Kubernetes at Heptio and CoreOS. I spend a mix of my time working on open source and enabling organization’s success with open source projects such as Kubernetes.

[07:30 - 08:05 PM] Rethinking Multi-Helm chart deployments with Barrelman (with Brandon Jozsa, Dan Taylor, and Jack Bruno)

ABSTRACT: Managing Helm chart requirements present many challenges for complex applications. At Charter, we’re redefining how the lifecycle of microservices are managed using project Barrelman.

BIOS:

Brandon Jozsa: Brandon has over 20 years of architecture experience in the telecommunications industry, and is responsible for the co-design of OpenStack-Helm and Airship projects. At Charter, Brandon is responsible for building out Charter’s Kubernetes microservices architecture.

Dan Taylor: Dan Taylor recently migrated from satellite ground system software and joined Charters CCP team in 2018 to help create Barrelman and other Kubernetes related tools.

Jack Bruno: Jack is on a journey to understand how everything works and how to improve it. Known as a jack of all trades (master of some), he has worn many hats in his career spanning operations, API, UI/UX, systems, and platform development. Currently he is focused on cloud and platform development to help development and operation teams improve automation and let them focus on work that is important them and to their business.
