Join us at the Deis office to learn how to use Helm to deploy ElasticSearch, Kibana and Fluentd (with Scott Sumner from CoreOS) + how to use Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm to deploy on-demand PostgreSQL streaming replicas (with Steve Hetzel from Samsung SDS).

[6:45 - 7:30 PM] Deploying ElasticSearch, Kibana and Fluentd with Helm (Scott Sumner, Senior Solutions Engineer @ CoreOS)
Join us for a presentation and demonstration showing how to use Helm (package manager) to deploy ElasticSearch, Kibana and Fluentd to monitor your Kubernetes cluster.
Scott Sumner, Sr. Solutions Engineer with CoreOS will cover how to leverage Helm to deploy ElasticSearch operator, Kibana and Fluentd to monitor all the logs within your Kubernetes cluster. He will discuss some of the challenges encountered with using third-party resources (TPR) in conjunction with Helm. He will show within a few commands how you can deploy everything in Kubernetes using helm and share his experience learning how to do it.
Bio: Over twenty years experience as Solution Engineer with a proven track record taking emerging technologies from inception to critical mass. I have a broad background in various technologies including Database Management, System Monitoring, Application Performance Management, Change and Configuration Management, DevOps (CI/CD), Data/App integration and Big Data (Hadoop/Redshift/Snowflake). I'm currently focused around self-driving container infrastructure using Kubernetes. Super passionate about emerging technologies and helping customer harness the power to solve enterprise level business problems. I worked at NCWCD, Oracle, Quest Software (Acquired by Dell), Mercury Interactive (Acquired by HP), GoldenGate (Acquired by Oracle), OpTier (Acquired by SAP), Noliosoft (Acquired by CA Technologies), SnapLogic and now CoreOS.

[7:45 - 8:15 PM] Using Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm to Deploy On-Demand PostgreSQL Streaming Replicas
There are many use-cases for running databases in containers – this presentation will focus on pragmatic examples of using Kubernetes to orchestrate Postgres streaming replicas for on-demand disaster recovery and horizontal scaling.
Containers are big news – they are the latest evolution in infrastructure technology and are poised to represent the next major shift in database workflows. As they are rapidly becoming an essential weapon in every DBA's arsenal – so let's take a look at what a Docker container represents to the RDBMS world, the relevant portions of the Kubernetes architecture, and a live demonstration of Postgres in action with Docker/Kubernetes.
Bio: I'm a seasoned-engineer that describes myself as being "at the intersection of DBA and DevOps". As a member of the Cloud Native Computing Team at Samsung SDS - my work revolves entirely around containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and data platforms. Evolving and implementing PostgreSQL in Cloud and containerized environments has been a passion and a technical highlight in my career. I'm currently based out of the Boulder, Colorado area.
