About this event

A Night with Istio

That nifty new Kubernetes (K8s) cluster is up and you are deploying microservices at a sprinter’s pace. Your apps are no longer monolithic and require a sprawling number of interconnections and thus a more complex network and service interaction model. A service mesh can tame this chaos by providing discovery, traffic management, observability and security in an runtime agnostic and transparent way. We introduce Istio, the latest service mesh framework that is quickly gaining traction with K8s users since it was announced in late May. Istio complements K8s network concepts (like CNI plugins and network policy), leveraging the Envoy proxy developed at Lyft. With Calico (projectcalico.org) as the network plugin and policy implementation, and Istio (istio.io) as the service mesh, we will demonstrate how you can quickly provision a feature-rich K8s cluster and manage and secure deployed microservice applications.
