Multi-cluster ingress for Kubernetes and OpenStack

As a container orchestration platform, Kubernetes offers many ways to route external ingress traffic to applications running inside a cluster. However, all of these APIs and systems are designed for standalone clusters while most production Kubernetes deployments consist of more than one Kubernetes cluster.

This deficiency makes managing cross-cluster service discovery and load balancing a challenge. This is further complicated considering that many organizations have extensive additional workloads running outside of Kubernetes that need to be integrated into the load balancing system.

In this talk, we will discuss different strategies for managing external traffic to multi-cluster applications across Kubernetes and OpenStack, specifically. We will then demonstrate how to leverage Kubernetes, Envoy, and Contour to provide an efficient and scalable ingress tier capable of shifting and load balancing traffic across diverse Kubernetes and OpenStack clusters.

His technical background is in architecting and deploying scalable, containerized, real-time application infrastructure. Ross is a Certified Kubernetes Administrator and a CNCF Ambassador. He received his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. Ross frequently speaks at technology conferences and events including DevOpsDays, QCon, CoreOS Fest, ContainerCamp, NodeSummit, Philly Kubernetes, NodeInteractive, and Philly Tech Week.
