--------- The Talks ---------

Georg Pirklbauer - OpenSource metrics primer: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and beyond

Metrics are a crucial yet often misunderstood part of every observability stack. Prometheus is a well-known standard for collecting and exporting metrics in the cloud-native world. The OpenTelemetry project has been working on a standard compatible with Prometheus but offers some additional capabilities. But why do we need another standard? And what parts of the standard are actually relevant when using metrics?

Join us in Linz and learn how to get started, what the different metric types are, and how you can export them using OpenTelemetry. We will also take a look at what other configuration options you have and how to most effectively use metrics in your application.

Philipp Bergsmann - Beyond Kubernetes: Integrating Backstage for a Seamless Developer Experience

As Kubernetes has become the cornerstone of cloud-native infrastructure, the need for a unified developer experience has grown more critical than ever. In this talk, we’ll explore how Backstage, the open platform for building developer portals, complements Kubernetes to simplify service management, streamline onboarding, and bring visibility to complex systems. Backstage enables teams to centralize information, making developers more efficient and satisfied.

I’ll demonstrate various approaches for using Backstage to improve developer workflows, integrate with existing CNCF tools, and tackle common challenges in managing Kubernetes-based environments. We will also explore how Backstage can be leveraged to manage cloud services effectively, providing a unified interface for both Kubernetes and cloud resources.
