About this event

We are excited to host the 21st edition of the Cloud Native Computing Linz meetup!

We'd like to thank Dynatrace for hosting the Meetup!

--------- The Speakers ---------

Katharina Sick

Katharina is a Software Engineer with six years of experience. She is passionate about creating user-friendly solutions, focusing on Cloud Native and Kubernetes. Katharina has experience in mobile application and backend development, but in recent years she has developed a keen interest in Cloud Native computing and continues to deepen her knowledge. Outside work, Katharina enjoys being part of tech and sports communities, inline skating, traveling, and challenging herself by participating in quizzes and games.

David Hondl

David is a Cloud Engineer at XXXLdigital. He is pretty enthusiastic about everything currently going on in the cloud native landscape and a fan of solutions that reduce complexity for everyone. Besides that, you can either find him on top of a mountain or at some concert hall.

--------- The Talks ---------

Katharina Sick - Crossplane & GitOps - A perfect match?

This talk will explore the combination of Crossplane and GitOps for automating infrastructure management. Attendees will follow our team's journey from manual deployments over Terraform to the benefits of GitOps, ending in how Crossplane can help manage infrastructure as code to automate the creation and maintenance of cloud resources. We will also cover the basics of GitOps and how it enables teams to manage infrastructure through code changes.

Throughout the session, Katharina will share their experiences combining GitOps and Crossplane, including best practices, pitfalls, and what they would do differently now.

David Hondl - Kubernetes as universal controlplane

Kubernetes has been a well established tool for orchestrating your container workloads for some time now.

Its extensible nature not only provides tons of tools to add additional functionality, it also gives you the power to extend it yourself using operators.

But what if we could go even one step further and extend it to the point where it's not only a tool for orchestrating containers, but for orchestrating everything else as well?

In this talk we will delve into the topic of establishing Kubernetes as a universal control plane and introduce "Crossplane", a tool that will help us along the way.

Event will be in person and indoors:

We will follow the COVID rules that are active on the date of the meetup.
