Our first Meetup this year starts with two hot topics in the Cloud Native space: "Serverless" architectures and multi-datacenter support in Kubernetes (aka "Federation").
Sebastien Goasguen from Skippbox (now part of Bitnami (http://Bitnami.com)) will kick off the Meetup to demo how to run a Serverless architecture on top of Kubernetes. If you haven't heard the term "Serverless (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serverless_computing)" (or "Function-as-a-Service (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_as_a_Service)") before, it's an execution model for running small pieces of code directly on cloud resources. Amazons' Lambda was the first product popularizing the concept, now OpenSource solutions are gaining popularity, especially those running on top of Kubernetes.
The 2nd part of the Meetup is about Kubernetes Federation. With Federation, Kubernetes clusters can be made aware of multiple datacenters, enabling global load distribution and resiliency against outages of complete regions.
Sebastian Cogno from Container Solutions (http://container-solutions.ch/) will live demo this feature with multiple Kubernetes clusters distributed across the world. To learn more about Federation, there's a recent blog post from another Container Solutions engineer explaining the feature on the Kubernetes blog (http://blog.kubernetes.io/2016/12/cluster-federation-in-kubernetes-1.5.htm).
Special thanks to Cisco for hosting us again this year!
