New York Kubernetes Meetup

In-person event

About this event

Hello Brooooklyn!

NYCK8s is finally headed over the bridge! We're excited to venture over to the beautiful, and conveniently located, United Technologies Digital Accelerator space in DUMBO.

First up, we'll be hearing from Cleveland Flowe, an engineer at UT supporting their data science and analytics products. Cleveland will take us through United Technology Digital Accelerator's journey moving from virtual servers to Kubernetes at Amazon(EKS). He will also provide some information on using K8s to manage AWS costs.

Then, Charity Majors from Honeycomb.io will present on testing in production. TLDR : it's gotten a bad rap. Only production is production, and the only way to gain confidence in your code is to bake it in production over time and a range of workloads. Charity will detail how to do this responsibly — without impacting end users! She'll speak on a broad range of options from capture/replay to canaries, production load testing to chaos engineering, and the instrumentation-based observability that lets cluster admins sleep well at night.

SPONSORED: Big thanks to NetApp and United Technologies Digital Accelerator for their support.

Are you a local group member interested in presenting to the group? If so, please submit your talk at: https://goo.gl/forms/RaoYMClioVUgeSJt1

At its core, United Technologies Corporation (UTC) is a global technology company that is intensely focused on serving customers across two major industries – aerospace and commercial buildings. To do that, UTC is constantly seeking new ways to add value to the customer experience and digital is a significant enabler to achieve that goal. Last year, UTC formed United Technologies Digital, a globally-connected community of experts that spans across all UTC businesses and is focused on accelerating the digitization of UTC and its respective industries. As part of this initiative, UTC launched the United Technologies Digital Accelerator in Brooklyn, NY. Through a design-led approach, the Digital Accelerator team applies its domain expertise to explore how data, analytics, and software can change the value that it creates for our customers and ultimately UTC as a whole.
