About this event

We have two great talks for the first Prometheus London meetup of 2018.

We're delighted to host Fabian Reinartz (https://twitter.com/fabxc), core Prometheus developer, and Bartlomiej Plotka (https://twitter.com/bwplotka), software engineer at Improbable. Fabian and Bartlomiej will be presenting Thanos (https://github.com/improbable-eng/thanos), a open-source project for long-term metrics storage.

Thanos is a set of components that can be composed into a highly available metric system with unlimited storage capacity. It leverages the Prometheus 2.0 storage format to efficiently access large amounts of metric data in an object store.

Next, we're very lucky to welcome Charity Majors (https://twitter.com/mipsytipsy), co-founder and CEO of honeycomb.io (https://honeycomb.io), an event-oriented approach to observability for microservices and distributed systems, and the co-author of "Database Reliability Engineering". Charity will be talking about alternatives to metrics-based instrumentation and the particular strengths of events, about sampling vs aggregation, and when you might want to use either.

Matt Bostock's stand-in talk on Timbala (https://github.com/mattbostock/timbala) will be postponed for another date.

If you'd like to give a talk at the next meetup, please send a message (https://www.meetup.com/Prometheus-London/members/149955392/) with a brief outline of your talk. If you haven't given a talk before, the next meetup is a great opportunity to do so.
