OpenCensus, Kind, and Embracing Cloud-Native

San Francisco Kubernetes Meetup

In-person event

About this event

Hello San Francisco Kubernauts!

We hope you can join us for an evening of Kubernetes talks right before Google Cloud Next '19 kicks off.

First on the program is Steve discussing OpenCensus and how it provides visibility into both distributed traces as well as metrics. He will walk through its architecture as well as cover key concepts including annotations and sampling policies. Live demos and coding examples will be presented through the talk. By the end of the session, you will know what OpenCensus is, why it is important, how you can get started and how you can get involved.

Second is Duffie who will give an introduction and live demo of sigs.k8s.io/kind which is a relatively new project that enables the creation of local K8s clusters leveraging Docker in Docker and kubeadm.

Finally, Roberto and Pavan will team up to provide some recommendations on moving to a cloud-native architecture. They will present a simple contract for describing 12-factor microservices and their requirements around deployment, scalability, security, observability, and runtime environment. They used this contract to implement the initial version of Anaplan's platform built on top of Kubernetes and Helm.

SPONSORED: Thanks to NetApp for coordinating and Anaplan for providing food and a venue for this event!
