Hello Seattle Kubernauts!
For our first meetup of the fall season we welcome Karthik Prabhakar from Tigera. He will present "Getting to Scale: Kubernetes Deployment Patterns for Networking and Network Security."
The adoption of Kubernetes progresses through stages of maturity in most organizations. Clusters start small but eventually grow into critical business infrastructure. Karthik will share some lessons learned through collaboration with numerous cluster and cloud platform operators as they've evolved through their respective K8s journeys. This talk has a particular focus on network (including service mesh) connectivity and security designs. He'll also highlight considerations for scale both for cluster deployment as well as day-2 operations.
The second presentation focuses on managing K8s with Kustomize. Kubernetes is a fantastic container orchestration technology. It has a lot of moving pieces, from Secrets to Services to ScaleSets. Managing this complexity is one of the primary challenges in moving to Kubernetes. Erick will present Kustomize, a tool that embraces YAML to enable a flexible and rational approach to dealing with this complexity. Familiarity with K8s will help you get the most out of this talk.

Karthik Prabhakar is the Director of Solution Architecture at Tigera, where he helps customers with secure application connectivity designs leveraging various open source projects that Tigera maintains or is involved with (such as Project Calico, Flannel, CNI, Istio, etc.). Karthik has assisted in the architecture of numerous containerized and cloud infrastructure deployments at scale.
Erick Thompson has been working with technology since his teenage years. While he has primarily worked on architecture and code, he has also had the opportunity to work in all aspects of technology, from networking to OS internals to designing DevOps processes. Erick is currently designing and building out a DevOps pipeline for Kubernetes using Azure AKS and Istio.
