Sessions:

Title: Running Enterprise Kubernetes on OpenStack at Scale

Abstract: Organizations are developing software applications in hybrid cloud architectures. Many of these applications are developed and deployed in an on-premises private cloud due to security, compliance, data affinity and for performance reasons. This private cloud should be scalable, flexible, secure, cost efficient, and a key part of their overall hybrid cloud strategy. Linux containers deployed on OpenStack represent one such solution. This talk will discuss how to deploy, orchestrate and manage enterprise Kubernetes on OpenStack, with Red Hat OpenShift as one example.

Title: Edge Computing - Akraino Community and Akraino Edge Blueprints

Abstract: Low latency, content thinning and analytics applications started to drive edge computing. In this talk, we will present some of the edge use cases, benefits of edge-computing and challenges in running applications at the edges. We will introduce LF-Edge (Linux Foundation Edge) and Akraino project in LF-Edge. We then discuss how Akraino project is trying to address challenges associated with the edge-computing. After giving overview of blueprints in Akraino, we will take one Blueprint in Akraino – Integrated Cloud Native Stack and discuss how this stack addresses edge deployments for both network functions (VNFs and CNFs) and application containers.

Speaker Bio: Srini Addepalli has 22+ years of experience in networking, security, analytics and automation. He has been in Intel for last 3 years working as Sr. Principal Engineer & Chief Architect. He technically leads the software engineering & architecture activities related to network orchestration, analytics and network/infrastructure security with specific focus on ONAP, edge and Kubernetes.

Title: Containers Isolation Advances and Light Weight VMs in Kubernetes - What's New With Kata Containers

Abstract: You may be familiar with the way Kata Containers deliver the isolation of VMs with the speed and footprint of containers. In January of this year, Kata introduced support for Firecracker and ACRN hypervisors - in addition to QEMU -- so users can pick whatever suits their application needs best. Kata also added Jailer and “rootless Kata" to provide even greater isolation. We'll show demos of these new features as well as a demo of a footloose pod with Kata on K8S.

Speaker Bio: Manohar Castelino is a Principal Engineer for Intel’s Open Source Technology Center. Manohar has worked on containers, networking, network management, network processors and virtualization. Manohar is currently an architect and developer with the kata-containers and works on Kubernetes enabling at Intel.
