Hands-on Labs

CONTAINERS AND OPENSTACKĀ HANDS-ON LAB
Robert Starmer returns to us by popular demand with an updated lab session that will help you get hands-on experience with Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and the benefits they bring to OpenStack. A 20-year veteran of the Silicon Valley tech scene, Robert is the Founder and CTO of Kumulus Technologies, a boutique consulting and education company that has long focused on OpenStack integration. Robert is also a Certified OpenStack Admin (COA).

BUILDING ANĀ OPENSTACK HANDS-ON LAB
For the "Building an OpenStack Hands-on Lab" workshop, you'll be using physical servers provided by Packet Hosting to build your own private OpenStack cloud. Specifically, you'll be using one of their 'Type 1' servers, a 32 GB, 120GB x 2 SSD (RAID-1), 4 core Xeon server. Packet Hosting provides their servers by the hour. With code SDOPENSTACK, you'll get $25 of free credit. The 'Type 1' is $0.40/hour so the $25 credit will get you 62 hours of CPU use. You are welcome to keep using the lab after the meetup.Ā You'll need to bring a WiFi equipped laptop to connect to the remote server.

Sign up atĀ http://www.packet.netĀ and use code SDOPENSTACK for the free credit. You'll need to provide a credit card or PayPal account to get the $25 in free credit. Please sign up the day before the meetup so that your account will be setup for the meetup!

John runs the OpenStack San Diego user group and gives frequent talks on cloud security at the OpenStack Summit, SUSECON, and the O'Reilly Security Summit.Ā

NETWORK SERVICES BENCHMARK (NSB) HANDS-ON LABĀ
Pankur AgarwalĀ andĀ Muthurajan (M Jay) JayakumarĀ will be offering a hands-on lab forĀ Network Service Benchmarking (NSB). NSB extends the yardstick framework to do VNF characterization and benchmarking in three different execution environments - bare metal i.e., native Linux environment, standalone virtual environment, and managed virtualized environment (e.g., OpenStack, etc.)

If Ā you are interested in attending this Ā NSB hands-on lab, pleaseĀ install and Configure the Oracle VM VirtualBox*Ā on your laptop prior to attending the session. Ā Step-by-step instructions can be found atĀ https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/dpdk-on-the-go-profile-dpdk-applications-on windows-laptop. Complete Step 1 through Step 5.

Speaker Presentations

Uri Elzur will share his expertise in the challenging space of cloud networking. Uri is a networking specialist with more than 25 years of industry experience and is the CTO of Intelā€™s Data Center Network Solution Group.

Raymond Paik, from the Linux Foundation, Eddy Rainer, and Stephen Gooch will continue the networking theme by discussing the OPNFV Plugfest/ETSI Plug Test and how its benefits for NFV developers.

Lightning Talks

We will end the day with a party which will include cool lightning talks (featuring the Intel, Cisco DevNet, Trilio, Rackspace, Datera, VMware, Mirantis, and Kumulus Technologies) and fun refreshments.
