Pike Release Update &
Redefining Protection in the Cloud:
Automated, Scalable and Rapid Recovery for OpenStack

Abstract:

The Pike release (the 16th release of OpenStack) went live on August 30th, and was the first cycle that was kicked off at a PTG meeting. The work we've done in the community to loop operators and developers closer together is really paying off. Tune in on Tuesday morning to understand the key enhancements in this release. I will cover some of the work done by the project development teams and the new features around enhancing user experience, lifecycle management, scalability, and modularity. Cinder and Ironic in particular had a TON of cool updates which we will discuss. We will also briefly talk about the Python 3.5 update and work being done around that.

Then we will discuss the automated, scalable, and rapid recovery for OpenStack, AND show a demo!

By the end of this session you will be able to:

• Better manage your complex, distributed OpenStack environment. 

• Simplify the design and implementation of your backup and recovery solution by working with the entire environment, not just the data. 

• Create point-in-time snapshots of workloads, minimize your risk of downtime, and enable one-click recovery in case of any failure. And,

• Provide a tenant-driven, self-service, forever scalable, and fully automated OpenStack cloud that's enterprise-caliber and production ready.

Speakers:

Lisa-Marie Namphy, US OpenStack Ambassador & Architect for the SF Bay Area OpenStack Community, will offer a brief technical update on Pike, the 16th release of OpenStack software.

Brian Garrett, Vice President of ESG Lab, will discuss findings from ESG's complete technical review of Trilio data protection, and backup and recovery for OpenStack. 

Billy Field, Dir Cloud Architecture, Trilio, will provide a live demo of how to properly protect and recover an OpenStack workload.
