About this event

We are excited to continue the discussion around OpenStack on Kubernetes (or should it be Kubernetes on OpenStack? Choices!) In this session, we'll take a look at how Kubernetes on OpenStack works in the real world.

SUMMARY

Containers are a great way to deliver modern applications, however, as the number of containers grows so does the complexity of managing them. The leading container orchestration platform today is Kubernetes. If you do decide to use Kubernetes, you will need a way to the manage the infrastructure that Kubernetes is running on, especially if you decide to run it on your own cloud. In this regard, OpenStack is great Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution to deploy as it gives you many of the constructs that you will need to have a great user (developer/operations) experience. Learn from other people's mistakes, challenges, and their success operating, building applications and deploying it to Kubernetes.

In this talk, Victor Palma, OpenStack Architect at Rackspace, will go through how to set up Kubernetes on OpenStack, run through considerations around architectural decisions, and describe some of the challenges and pitfalls he has experienced. There will be an open Q&A session after the presentation. Victor will present some lessons learned from deploying and operating Kubernetes on OpenStack, in particular:
- What to consider when deploying Kubernetes.
- What OpenStack components you should consider for your deployment.
- Networking considerations

SPEAKER'S BIO

Victor Palma is an experienced systems architect with a passion for open source technologies. He is currently an OpenStack Architect at Rackspace. Victor is currently working behind the scenes to help deliver OpenStack and Kubernetes as a service. He has experience operating and architecting hybrid cloud solutions. Those solutions can include OpenStack private clouds to public clouds such as Azure, AWS, and GCE. He holds various cloud Architect certifications and has experience building teams and applications that can scale with demand. Outside of OpenStack and Rackspace, Victor is passionate about different technologies like kafka, fluentd, docker, kubernetes, istio, and enjoys contributes to their development.
