South Bay OpenStack, Beginner track Topic: DevStack

About this event

For the 02April15 meeting let's talk about DevStack

DevStack is a way to get OpenStack running on your laptop.

IMPORTANT Caveat: Running a Cloud Management system, like OpenStack, on a laptop is an oxymoron. Clouds live on the internet. Clouds run on a multitude of servers in DataCenters.

That said, DevStack is good for:

1) Developers who want to work locally with the OpenStack API,

2) Testers, who need to design and run tests locally, (FYI, StackForge uses a unique DevStack instance to test each and every change to the OpenStack source code base before that change is accepted.)

3) Tire-kickers who want to get a little bit of hands-on experience with OpenStack without signing up with an OpenStack service hosted by a commercial provider.

And remember:

"Friends don't let friends run DevStack in production!"

These meetups are community based and focused. The Beginner track is for someone with little to no experience with OpenStack. You can be interested in expanding your DevOps horizons or someone that just wants to learn more about this cloud thing.

Attend remotely via WebEx or Google Hangout (whichever we sort out the day of). The link will be posted here the night of the meetup.

Updates will be published via the meetup email list, OpenStack community blog, and twitter via @hpcloudangel, @revanshp, or @sarob
