Presentation Descriptions:

Kick Starting a New DevEx Initiative and Backstage Adoption

In this talk, I will share my experience over the past year with initiating a developer experience (DevEx) project and implementing Backstage as an internal developer portal. Iโ€™ll provide some context on how this idea came to fruition and why it felt like the right time for such an endeavor. Iโ€™ll walk you through the steps we took to better understand our engineering community and the challenges engineers face, which gave us a solid foundation to identify the top 3-5 areas to focus on. Along the way, we encountered many challenges and learned valuable lessons that Iโ€™m excited to discuss with you. I look forward to a productive discussion at the end of the session.

Speaker Bio:

Marinela is an experienced technical project and program manager with a strong agile mindset. I have over 15 years of experience in tech, spanning the online payments industry, gaming and betting business, and online media. During this time, I have been involved in the full software product development lifecycle, from initial concept and gathering business requirements, through implementation and testing, to delivery in production and bringing the product into operation. In recent years, my work has focused on engineering productivity initiatives, providing tools to help engineers work more effectively and efficiently deliver value to customers.

eBPF Deep Dive: Architecture, Implementation, and Real-world Applications

eBPF has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies in Linux kernel programming, with exponential adoption across the cloud-native ecosystem. Major tech companies like Meta, Google, and Netflix now leverage eBPF at scale for networking, security, and observability solutions. The technology has become fundamental and is now supported by default in all major Linux distributions and cloud providers, with the eBPF Foundation attracting support from industry leaders across the computing spectrum.

This talk will provide an exploration of extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) technology, focusing on both theoretical foundations and practical applications. Weโ€™ll begin with core eBPF concepts and their evolution from classical BPF, followed by an architectural deep-dive into its kernel implementation, verification mechanisms, and runtime behavior.

Points of Interest:

โ€ข Technical overview of eBPF architecture and its integration with the Linux kernel.

โ€ข Analysis of problem spaces where eBPF provides better solutions than traditional approaches, particularly in networking and observability.

โ€ข Detailed examination of the eBPF execution environment, including JIT compilation, safety verification, and helper functions.

โ€ข Real-world implementation examples featuring projects like Cilium and pwru.

โ€ข Development workflows using modern eBPF toolchains and frameworks.

โ€ข Performance considerations and optimization strategies.

โ€ข Current state of the eBPF community.

Speaker Bio:

Dimitar has been a DevOps Engineer at SiteGround for the past 8 years. Heโ€™s an active member of the eBPF community and is deeply passionate about open-source software and its transformative impact on modern computing.
