About this event

18:00-18:30 - Gathering, Pizza and Drinks (sponsored by Couchbase)

18:30-19:15 - DB operations on Kubernetes with the Couchbase operator, Lior King

Operators are a design pattern for automatic management of application
on top of Kubernetes. Couchbase was the first NoSQL DB to release an
operator for Kubernetes that automates the management of the database cluster. In this session we will introduce Kubernetes operators, and discuss their benefits over Stateful Sets for running distributed
databases inside Kubernetes, as seen in the Couchbase operator.
We will discuss the unique architecture of Couchbase and how it is deployed dynamically inside Kubernetes. We will also demonstrate how a Couchbase database can be entirely managed in Kubernetes just by a YAML file.

19:15-20:00 - Rightsize your Kubernetes Deployments using VPA, Dan Benjamin

In this Lecture, Dan will discuss the challenges and existing solutions employed today to rightsize a Kubernetes Deployment. Then, Dan will unveil the different capabilities of VPA and how to use it to rightsize your existing deployments.
Last, Dan will cover some best practices for using VPA.

About the speakers:

Lior King has been a data platforms geek for many years and likes anything related to databases, machine learning, data tools and data access layers in various programming language.
Today Lior is a senior solutions engineer at Couchbase and helps customers to run their databases inside or outside Kubernetes.

Dan Benjamin is a Startup Architect at the Google Cloud for startups, an acceleration platform for startups using Google Cloud. At GC4s, he helps early stage entrepreneurs win on top of Google Cloud. That includes helping them build innovative architectures, scaling their solution, pivoting and finding product market fit.
Prior to joining Google, Dan has acquired over a decade of industry experience, where he led tech teams, built and maintained solutions which supported massive scale, sold solutions to enterprise customers of all sizes, designed products in various industries and raised funds from high profile investors. Dan’s recent startup, silverback.ai has raised over $4M to date, in which he acted as the co-founder and CTO. Dan is an Alumni of 8200, TechStars, Zell, The Junction and Mass Challenge.
