About this event
We’ll dive into Istio Ambient Mesh through an hands-on workshop and tour of the new Ambient capabilities including Mesh on-boarding without sidecars, Layer 4-7 authorization policies, Layer 7 observability, Fault injection, and Traffic shifting.
By Sergey Marunich @Tetrate.io. Up until now, Ingress routes into K8s clusters have been defined by the Ingress kind, or by vendor-specific CRDs. Neither of these were satisfactory, so a new set of built-in k8s APIs was developed - the Gateway API. In this talk, we will cover the motivation for a new API, its design, and show some examples of its use. we’ll then also cover implementations of it today and in the future, and talk about the exciting merging of several of the existing ingress controllers into one new de facto standard - Envoy Gateway.

Getting Started with Istio Ambient Mesh: An Interactive Workshop
By Marino Wijay (Developer Relations @ Solo). Istio is the most widely used service mesh platform in the world. In September 2022, Google and Solo.io announced the release of Istio Ambient Mesh to the community. Ambient offers a revolutionary data-plane architecture that allows service mesh users to ditch sidecars. It slashes operational complexity and enables incremental mesh adoption, all while reducing cost and computational overhead within a service mesh. This interactive workshop provides a hands-on tour of the new Ambient capabilities. Each session participant will have access to their own sandboxed Kubernetes environment hosted on the Instruqt platform. A Solo-sponsored, Credly-managed “Foundation for Ambient Mesh” badge will be issued to workshop participants who choose to take and pass a free certification exam offered at the end of the session.
