Hey Kubernetes and OpenShift Enthusiasts!
August Kubernetes and OpenShift Meetup #29

6:30-7:15 Deploying MySQL on Kubernetes & OpenShift - Alexander Rubin
Principal Architect (Consulting), Percona
Deploying stateful applications on top of Kubernetes & OpenShift is very exciting topic nowadays. In this hands on talk, Alexander Rubin from Percona will talk about how to deploy MySQL on Kubernetes & OpenShift. His use case will be deploying Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC) together with MySQL Proxy and implementing read/write split.
If you never used Kubernetes / OpenShift or never used PXC / MySQL Proxy - Alexander will do a quick introduction to both. He will also do a demo and provide additional information for people interested in deploying PXC + ProxySQL yourself.
7:15 break
7:15-8:00 Jenkins X - Will Refvem, Solution Architect, CloudBees
Cloud-native Jenkins sounds like a contradiction. The cloud is about small, ephemeral microservices, and Jenkins epitomizes the type of large, monolithic Java application that is allegedly moribund in this brave new Cloud world.
Can Jenkins fit into that world? Can Java? Jenkins X answers that question with an enthusiastic “yes”. Using the best open source dev tools and a GitOps work flow of the kind developed by Weaveworks, we’re developing a platform for Kubernetes-native application development, with Jenkins as its engine.
In this talk, we’ll see how Jenkins X does all of that, and we’ll take a look at KubeCD, a commercial offering from CloudBees based on Jenkins X. Time permitting, we'll get into topics like Prow and Istio as they relate to Jenkins X.
Will Refvem is a software engineer at CloudBees, where he works on Jenkins X and associated open source and commercial projects.
