Technologies such as Kubernetes and the directions the various open source applications, services, and plugin vendors have begun embarking is democratizing service management and every major cloud provider has begun adopting containers as a service. What steps can organizations take to gain the ability to run their workloads where ever they choose? Can Kubernetes and the container ecosystem free us from what binds us to particular cloud providers? Many organizations may be sold on this idea but it’s important to understand that platforms aren’t what bind us to a particular cloud vendor - their services do. I will cover the pros and cons of leveraging technologies which are exclusive to a cloud vendor using first-hand and real-world examples.
