Join us for an informative joint meeting with the Big Data and Hadoop Users Group of West Michigan focusing on DevOps in the cloud and practical applications of Blockchain . At 6 PM, software consultant Kevin Jackson, principal, Myriad Cypher, will present "Bridging the Chasm between Development and DevOps on Microsoft Azure." Mr. Jackson will explain and demonstrate how to deploy a Microsoft ASP.Net application on Azure and how to manage application resources with Azure Dashboard. Mr. Jackson will provide a real-time walk-through of the deployment and management of Myriad's M-CAT tax application and a SQL Server database using Visual Studio and the Azure Dashboard. He will show how MVC (Model View Controller) and the Entity Framework can be used to deploy locally as well as on the cloud. Other Azure deployment topics will also be covered, including Azure App Services, deployment slots, SMTP services through Send Grid, and application settings in the cloud.
Mr. Jackson is a thought leader in the fields of software development and leadership. He has designed, developed, and managed successful projects for a diverse set of clients, including Whirlpool Corporation, Miami Dade County, and Canon USA. His career focus has been on “growing people to grow teams” in the field of software development. Kevin founded Myriad Cypher in 2016 where he focuses on new product creation, technology leadership, and software consulting. Prior to Myriad Cypher, Mr. Jackson worked as the VP of Global Product Development for Thomson Reuters, where he led product development teams on four continents.

At 7 PM, software developer and application architect Peter Mooney will present "Practical Applications of Blockchain." Mr. Mooney will begin with an overview of Blockchain technology, explaining its distributed-system elements as well as its best-known application, Bitcoin. Mr. Mooney will then discuss other applications of Blockchain, highlighting a couple promising projects and focusing on distributed-system elements.
Mr. Mooney is a veteran full-stack developer and application architect. His obsession with Blockchain started in early 2017 when a friend introduced him to Ethereum, and he's been addicted ever since. Mr. Mooney is a software-developer for Musiconomi and a partner in the recently-formed consultancy Blockchain Consultants of West Michigan.
