Join Divya Mohan to learn more about WASM!
WebAssembly (Wasm) has generated a lot of buzz as the next big thing across tech! In this talk, we focus on Wasm's promise and where it fits into the cloud & cloud native contexts.WebAssembly is a promising technology for many reasons, including language agnosticity, cross-platform/architecture support, sandboxing capabilities, small binary sizes, and great performance. Seizing on these positives, there have been a lot of projects that leverage Wasm not just on the browser but also on the server side! However, in the context of the cloud native ecosystem, it is NOT a zero-sum game as many skeptics and gurus claim it to be. Wasm isn't set to replace containerization but complements it, by doing some of the things that containers can't.This talk introduces Wasm, focusing on its promise in the cloud native context. Then, we shall illustrate how containerization and the Wasm ecosystem work together with examples of a microservice architecture that uses Wasm and containerd. Lastly, with some speculation about what the future of this niche intersection might look like in the coming few years, we shall conclude this session
