"Kubernetes for Mac - run your Kubernetes workloads on MacOS worker nodes!," Paweł Bojanowski

Abstract: Availability of Mac compute shapes on AWS presents a unique opportunity to consume Mac compute via Kubernetes thereby simplifying Operations. In this talk I, on behalf of the Elotl’s engineering team, will open source Kubernetes for Mac. Kubernetes for Mac provides a way to attach MacOS machines as first class worker nodes to a Kubernetes cluster.

I will demo how to run MacOS specific workloads (such as Deployments) on those nodes using standard Kubernetes APIs. I am going to discuss when it might be a good idea to use this setup and will showcase each node component configuration that makes it possible - including slightly modified kubelet & kube-proxy and proCRI - a custom Container Runtime Interface implementation.

"Where sharing is caring," Julia Hahn

Abstract: We strongly believe in open source and the culture around it. Open collaboration, transparency, sharing and giving back to the community are all essential pieces. Together we are better, faster, and have a lot more fun. . Our friends are our current and past employees, our customers, our partners, and the cloud native open source community in general. And we care for them. That is why we started building Giant Swarm & Friends two years ago - a program where we let friends meet friends and give talks, share their knowledge and discuss problems while having a safe space to meet up regularly - all virtually. I would like to share our journey, our learnings and our fundamental beliefs that helped build the community we are proud of.

Pawel is a Platform Engineer at Elotl, Kubernetes & Go fan and amateur squash player. Likes to disassemble and reassemble the software.

Julia is a Relationship Manager at Giant Swarm where she works with partners and friends to build an open source cloud-native community. In a previous job she worked as a partner manager where she realized that collaboration, communication and sharing knowledge improves work, success and also is a lot of fun.
