Networking in Kubernetes is complex, and Day 2 Operational considerations like scale, security, performance, and reliability only add to the challenge. In this talk we’ll present how a strong observability unlocks superpowers for both the platform teams and anyone using these platforms. And how this helps address the Day 2 challenges.
Drawing from the speaker’s experience supporting Cilium in production, we'll begin with a quick refresher on Kubernetes networking basics before diving into what are the typical observability needs and how these can be addressed with Cilium and Hubble, including:
1) Network connectivity visibility from L2 to L7.
2) The top network observability metrics to watch.
3) How observability helps implementing microsegmentation with network policies.
4) How to monitor the CNI and its dataplane themself.
5) How to surface the data in beautiful and actionable dashboards.
The audience will learn from production Cilium experience to understand the top observability practices for Kubernetes network operations.
